Serving Your Child’s Mental Health Needs

Child Mental Health Services include many treatment options such as evaluation, counseling, skills development, carefully monitored medication if needed, and case management for children and their families. Metrocare also offers more intensive services for children and adolescents who have a history of suicide, are involved with the criminal justice system, and/or are struggling to stabilize at home or in school settings.

Serving Your Child’s Mental Health Needs

Play Therapy

Young children communicate through play. It is how they express their feelings, develop problem-solving skills, and learn how to relate to others, which is why play therapy is so effective. Metrocare’s trained play therapists help children express and work through distressing issues, such as emotional trauma, in a safe, nurturing environment.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Anxiety, depression, OCD, and other mental health challenges can be caused by inaccurate and negative thinking. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is research-proven talk therapy that effectively treats a variety of child and teen mental health challenges. CBT can be used on its own or in combination with medication. The result is that young people view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a healthier, more effective way.

Benefits from Children’s Counseling

While many people think of childhood as a carefree time of life, this age group is subject to just as many—if not more stressors—than adults. In fact, in late 2021, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Children’s Hospital Association declared a national emergency in child and adolescent mental health. The best way to combat this problem is with effective, research-based counseling. Metrocare’s therapy services help children and teens express their emotions, communicate their concerns, develop problem-solving skills, and form healthy relationships. Let us know how we can help.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Meet with a Qualified Mental Health Professional

At Metrocare, we understand that every child is different and requires an individualized treatment plan. You and your child will meet with a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to complete required assessments, discuss your child’s needs, and establish initial recovery goals.

Evaluation by a Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner

You and your child will complete an evaluation with a Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner to address medical needs as a component of the recovery plan. Each patient is assigned a Metrocare care coordinator who works with the child’s built-in support system and addresses possible barriers to care.
