The energy was high and the smiles were wide at the Harry Stone Recreation Center on Saturday, July 19, as Metrocare hosted its 4th Annual Back 2 School Community Fair. More than 300 children and their families from across Dallas County came together for a morning filled with fun, support, and community spirit. As North Texas’ largest provider of mental health and intellectual and developmental disability services, Metrocare knows that the back-to-school season can be overwhelming for many families. Because Metrocare believes in a holistic approach to care, this annual event was designed to do more than give out school supplies—it was also meant to introduce families to local partners and connect them to community resources to help them thrive beyond the school year. Families at the event enjoyed:
- Free school supplies
- Health and wellness resources
-
Community partners and local organizations
- Fun activities for kids
- Mental health information and support services
“Back-to-school season can be stressful for families, especially those facing financial or emotional challenges,” said Dr. John Burruss, CEO of Metrocare. “This annual event is about more than just school supplies—it’s about community and connecting families with the resources they need to thrive.”
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our sponsors, who helped bring joy and essential resources to families across Dallas County:
- Celebration Station – Bringing fun and excitement to the fair
- Kona Ice – Keeping everyone cool with delicious shaved ice
- The Maids of Duncanville – Supporting clean starts for the school year
- Smile Magic Family Dental – Promoting healthy smiles for every child
- Tiff’s Treats – Sweetening the day with warm, fresh-baked cookies
We also extend our gratitude to Dallas Parks & Recreation and the many staff, volunteers, and community partners who helped make this event a success.
