A New Era Begins: Metrocare Celebrates Grand Opening of Hillside Campus

Metrocare Opening 195 1

September 25, 2025, marked a transformative moment for mental health and intellectual & developmental disability (IDD) services in North Texas as Metrocare officially unveiled its new Mental Health & Disability Innovation Center at the Hillside Campus in southern Dallas. The ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed a mix of Metrocare staff, community partners, philanthropic leaders, and elected officials, all gathered to celebrate the launch of a facility designed to redefine care, dignity, and healing.

The Hillside Campus, a collaborative creation by Kirksey Architecture and Whiting-Turner, is more than just a collection of buildings—it’s a beacon of hope. The campus features:

  • A 45,000-square-foot clinic serving children, teens, and adults with mental health and intellectual & developmental disabilities, increasing Metrocare’s service capacity by 23%.
  • A 93,000-square-foot Client Services Building, home to the Altshuler Center for Education and Research (ACER)—North Texas’ premier training and research hub for mental health professionals.
  • Therapeutic outdoor spaces and tranquility gardens, thoughtfully designed to foster community, inclusion, and restoration.

The Hillside Campus stands as a testament to the power of partnership. Parkland Health contributed $50 million in essential financing, while Dallas County provided a $9.2 million ARPA grant to support the clinic’s development.

Metrocare’s Capital Campaign, backed by over 300 donors, brought together a remarkable coalition of philanthropic individuals, foundations, and organizations. To view a full list of supporters, click here.

These generous contributions helped create a space that is not only functional but also deeply intentional. The Hillside Campus was built with the understanding that access to quality mental health care should never feel intimidating or out of reach. Every element—from the architecture to the outdoor gardens—was designed to be inviting, inclusive, and restorative, especially for our most vulnerable neighbors experiencing mental health challenges or navigating disability services.

Metrocare remains committed to serving over 50,000 individuals annually, offering a wide range of services including mental health care, developmental disability support, housing, and trauma-informed training through its Altshuler Center for Education and Research (ACER).
