Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT)

AOT is a court-ordered program that provides community-based mental health treatment to adults with mental illness who may struggle with voluntary adherence to treatment.

AOT aims to:
  • Encourage engagement: Help individuals participate fully in their treatment plans.

  • Enhance support: Ensure treatment providers are dedicated to keeping clients engaged and improving outcomes.

  • Reduce recidivism: Lower rates of jail and hospital re-admissions.

  • Increase safety and involvement: Strengthen community engagement in mental health care.

Metrocare partners with the Dallas County Civil Court to identify individuals who meet the legal criteria for AOT high-quality treatment. Referrals come from many sources, including Dallas Police Department, Community Agencies, Hospitals, Right Care, and more.
