Homeless Services

Since 1989, the Metrocare Homeless Services, located at the City of Dallas Day Resource Center, has provided aggressive outreach and supportive services. The street outreach efforts have included intensive approaches in homeless encampments, shelters and abandoned buildings.

Licensed Social Work and a Chemical Dependency Counselor provide specialized outreach to homeless youth and homeless adults. Working in conjunction with various housing providers, staff assists the homeless mentally ill and/or chemically addicted consumers with obtaining and adjusting to independent living.

Case management support is provided while obtaining housing and applying for entitlements such as the Veterans Administration Benefits, Social Security Income and Supplemental Social Income. As part of Homeless Services, psychiatric assessments, medications and other clinical services are provided through Community Outreach Clinics (COC). This service is provided at various shelters and at the City of Dallas Resource Center.

Programs at Metrocare Homeless Services

Housing Services

This is a joint program between Metrocare Services Homeless Services staff and the City of Dallas. This is a five-year permanent housing program with wrap around supportive services to empower the homeless mentally ill and substance abusers to develop independent living skills. This program provides the psychosocial skills essential for the successful graduation to independent living. The program has a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) who provides services to Dual Diagnosed homeless adults.

Community Outreach Clinics (COC)

These clinics provide psychiatric outpatient treatment in a non-traditional mental health environment. COC clinics provide psychiatric assessments, crisis intervention, and medications.

Path for Kids

A licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) assists families with obtaining mental health treatment and various other support services. The Social Worker also does street outreach. The target population for this youth worker is homeless children under the age of 18.

Path Outreach

Outreach Workers look for individuals on the street, make contact with them and attempt to establish a trusting relationship that will enable the person to come to the COC clinic and utilize the mental health services available to the homeless.
