LIFENET TEXAS BECOMES PART OF METROCARE SERVICES

After Serving the Community for 38 years, Lifenet Merges with North Texas’ Leading Nonprofit Dedicated to Helping People With Mental Illness

DALLAS – January 29, 2015 – Metrocare Services has announced that the staff and services of Lifenet Texas will become part of Metrocare.

Metrocare is North Texas’ leading nonprofit dedicated to helping people with mental illness, developmental disabilities and severe emotional problems live healthier lives. Lifenet Texas, founded in 1977, is a local nonprofit that helps North Texans in need, including providing care and housing for those struggling with mental disorders and addiction.

“We are thrilled that Lifenet Texas will become an integral part of Metrocare Services,” said Dr. John Burruss, CEO of Metrocare. “For nearly 40 years, Lifenet has being doing a remarkable job of improving the lives of so many people. We’re honored to team up with this important organization to enhance mental healthcare in North Texas and better serve the community.”

Employees of Lifenet Texas will become employees of Metrocare Services. The clinic at Lifenet’s offices at 9708 Skillman Street and its clinic at the Bridge homeless recovery center will continue to provide services before, during and after the transition.

In addition to outpatient mental health treatment, Lifenet Texas provides chemical dependency treatment, permanent supportive housing assistance, job placement through supportive employment services and the delivery of goods that meet basic needs through an onsite food pantry and clothing store.  Lifenet Texas will join the Metrocare team and continue operations under the Lifenet Texas name at both locations.

“We are grateful to become part of Metrocare Services’ long tradition of providing first-class care to the community. Current patients of Lifenet Texas will continue to receive the best treatment and services,” said Lifenet Texas President and CEO Liam Mulvaney, who is retiring February 1 after more than 30 years in healthcare, including executive management roles at Green Oaks Hospital in Dallas and CREOKS Mental Health Services in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“Becoming a part of Metrocare will allow us to improve access and help us fulfill our mission of helping people rebuild their lives,” Mulvaney said.

Lifenet Texas was founded in 1977 with a mission to meet the needs of individuals discharged from state mental facilities who were returning to their local communities with little social supports.  Lifenet has helped people stabilize and rebuild their lives by providing safe, affordable housing, employment options, quality mental health treatment, addiction therapy and food.  For more than 35 years, it’s been a unique service provider in North Texas, treating anyone who needs help, including the underfunded and uninsured.

The board of directors of Lifenet Texas was concerned about the continued level of care for the current patients of Lifenet with Mulvaney’s approaching retirement.  The board contacted Metrocare Services with a request for Metrocare to assume operational responsibilities of Lifenet Texas and the medical care and services of the current Lifenet consumers.
