Bethany Yeiser, Keynote Speaker
“Overcoming Schizophrenia”

Bethany Yeiser is a motivational speaker and the author of Mind Estranged: My Journey from Schizophrenia and Homelessness to Recovery (released May 31, 2014). Bethany was a scholarship winner, researcher and violinist before she became severely mentally ill and homeless her senior year of college, 2003. Bethany established the CURESZ Foundation with Dr. Henry Nasrallah in July, 2016.

Bethany will be addressing Overcoming Schizophrenia in her keynote address.

Panel Discussion Members

John Bennett, M.D., Metrocare Services — Dr. Bennett has over 28 years of experience in the field of medicine. He graduated from University Of Texas Southwestern Medical School At Dallas with his medical degree in 1990. Dr. Bennett treats conditions like depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, insomnia, ADD and other mental illnesses.

Julia Noble, former chair of Metrocare Services' Board of Trustees — Mrs. Noble was appointed by the Dallas Count Commissioner's Court (Joint Appointment). She was awarded the Ruth Sharp Altshuler Prism Award from MHA in 2006 and has a great history of serving the Dallas community.

Carol North, M.D., Medical Director of Metrocare Services' Altshuler Center for Education & Research — Dr. Carol North holds The Nancy and Ray L. Hunt Chair in Crisis Psychiatry and is Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She is also Director of the Division of Trauma and Disaster in the Department of Psychiatry. For more than a quarter of a century, Dr. North has continuously conducted federally funded research into disaster mental health, psychiatric aspects of medical illness, and psychiatric problems of homeless populations, and has developed specialized education programs for professionals, patients, and families, while providing direct patient care and directing clinical services for homeless and seriously psychiatrically ill patients.

Carol Tamminga, M.D., Professor and Chairman of Psychiatry, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center — Dr. Tamminga is a psychiatrist and researcher and Chairman of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern in Dallas. She specializes in treating psychotic illnesses, such as schizophrenia, psychotic bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder. Her work is focused on both improving Dallas current systems of care for these patients and developing new ways to detect and treat their disease.
