SUMMARY:Balancing Acts: Effective and Compassionate Mental Health Care for Families
DESCRIPTION:Providing Family Therapy can be an intimidating prospect for even seasoned counselors and therapists. Counselors and mental health practitioners must walk the tightrope of joining with each family member while avoiding triangulation or an overfocus on the identified client. Yet\, Family Therapy offers tools for change that may prove more effective than individual therapy alone for many clinical presentations. This workshop will encourage and empower clinicians of all backgrounds and experience levels to engage families and couples in treatment. We will examine the primary principles of Family Systems Theory and discuss brief interventions that practitioners can use to begin working with families. \nAt the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe the primary principles and interventions of Family Systems Theory\n\n\nUnderstand the influence of Family Systems Theory on mental health symptomology and treatment\nExamine the primary tasks and strategies of family systems and how these tasks and strategies perpetuate through the generations\nImplement key skills and interventions for effectively working with families in their counseling or therapeutic practice\n\nRegister Here!\nCost: $25 \nLocation: Mustang Room (first floor) \nSeats are limited. As an experienced LMFT and LMFT supervisor\, Andrew loves engaging with even the most complex family cases to shift patterns and create space for change. Andrew is trained in multiple couples and family counseling models including Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFT) and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT). \nAs the Manager of Clinical Training at Metrocare\, Andrew leads the organization in providing clinical and trauma-informed training for all mental health professionals and counseling staff. Andrew is a Certified Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) trainer and facilitates professional and community training on topics including Family Therapy\, Trauma Informed Care\, Mental Health Awareness and Education\, Professional Boundaries\, Gambling Disorder\, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
