Jill Martinez is from Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Wayne State University in 1978, majoring in Sociology and Computer Science. She owns and produces The Irving Journal, a community newspaper that recently migrated from a printed version to online.
 

Her community involvement includes the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce, Irving Counts Census Committee, Irving League of Women Voters, Irving Women’s Network, DFW Humane Society board member and former member of the Irving YWCA Advisory Council.

She and her husband Robert have two children and three wonderful grandchildren ages 13, 10 and 7.
